DESCRIPTION

Hello! My name is Northern Gold Forsythia, and I am best known for my flowers being the welcoming committee for your spring garden. I am best known for my striking golden bell shaped flowers, which bloom in abundance along my branches in early spring before the leaves begin to sprout. I am a low maintenance shrub, and should only be pruned after I am done flowering to make sure none of the current season's flowers are removed. I am happiest, healthiest and most beautiful when mass planted in full sunlight to enhance my colorful springtime effect!

Care Guide

  • Watering: Water deeply and regularly during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system. Once established, this plant is moderately drought tolerant, but regular watering is still recommended during prolonged dry periods.
  • Maintenance: This plant is generally low maintenance, requiring little attention once established. In early spring, before new growth emerges, remove any dead, damaged or crossing branches.
  • Pruning: If necessary, lightly prune after flowering to maintain a neat, compact shape. Avoid heavy pruning during the growing season, as this can reduce the following year's flowering. In late winter, before new growth emerges, remove any remaining dead or damaged wood, and thin out any weak or crossing branches.
  • (Optional): Northern Gold generally does not require fertilizer, as it can thrive in a variety of soil types. If desired, a light application of balanced fertilizer in early spring can help promote healthy growth and flowering.
