DESCRIPTION

Lovely to meet you, my name is Hamabo Rose of Sharon! I am best known for my bold trumpet shaped blooms of pink flowers and their cherry red centers. My deep green foliage naturally grows in an upright habit to an impressive size so I can show off as many flowers as possible. I also have the special talent of attracting butterflies and hummingbirds to wherever I am planted - but don't worry, the deer leave me alone!I am high maintenance and require regular upkeep to keep me beautiful. I prefer to be pruned in the late winter once the threat of cold weather has passed. I thrive in any soil type and pH, and am very highly tolerant of urban pollution - you can plant me right in the city! I am happiest, healthiest and most beautiful when I am given some sun to soak up throughout the day, and my soil is kept moist.

Care Guide

  • Watering: Water the tree deeply once a week during dry periods. Keep the soil moist, but not waterlogged.
  • Maintenance: Remove any dead or damaged branches, and cut back any branches that have become too long or leggy. You can also remove any suckers that appear at the base of the tree to maintain a single-trunk shape.
  • Pruning: In late fall or early winter, after the leaves have dropped, you can do a more extensive pruning to remove any remaining dead or damaged branches, as well as any branches that are crossing or rubbing against each other. This is also a good time to shape the tree for the following growing season.
  • (Optional):Fertilize the tree once a year in early spring, just before new growth appears. Use a balanced fertilizer, such as a 10-10-10 or 20-20-20 formula, and follow the manufacturer's instructions for application rates. Be careful not to over-fertilize, as this can damage the tree and promote excessive vegetative growth at the expense of blooms.
