These sweet fruits need full sun, at least 6 hours a day, and well-drained, sandy loam soil with plenty of organic matter. The soil pH should be slightly acidic, around 5.5 to 6.5. Consistent, even watering is vital, especially during fruiting. Strawberries are shallow-rooted, so they benefit from mulching to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Fertilize with a balanced fertilizer during growing season. Protecting the fruit from birds with netting may be necessary, and always keep an eye out for slugs and snails.
