This plant is low-maintenance and easy to care for, making it a great choice for beginner gardeners or those looking for a hassle-free addition to their landscape. Its deer-resistant nature and tolerance for pruning also make it a popular choice for gardens in areas with wildlife or limited space. With its elegant appearance and easy care, Hicks Yew is sure to add a touch of sophistication to any garden or outdoor space.
Care Guide
Watering: Water regularly during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system. After the first year, Hicks Yew is drought-tolerant and does not need frequent watering.
Maintenance: Remove any dead, diseased, or damaged branches and wear gloves when handling the plant, as all parts of the yew plant are toxic if ingested.
Pruning: In season pruning is not usually necessary for Hicks Yew, but you can trim it to shape it during the growing season. The best time for pruning is late winter or early spring, before new growth begins. Use clean, sharp pruning shears and make cuts just above a healthy bud or branch.
(Optional):Fertilize using a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring, and follow the package instructions for the recommended amount to use.
