DESCRIPTION

Hello, my name is Hidcote English Lavender. I am most likely the image that pops into your mind when you hear the word Lavender, distinguished by my fragrant purple needle flowers that stretch above grayish green foliage. My deep violet-blue flowers which stretch high above my bushy silver-grey foliage. My fragrant flowers and array of herbal and medicinal uses make me a popular choice in many herb gardens - my flower's scent is often used to improve sleep and act as a natural remedy for pain. I am also used as a fragrance ingredient in many teas and dishes! I am a very low maintenance shrub. Though I do prefer alkaline soils, I can thrive in any soil type, and I am extremely tolerant to urban pollution and drought. My one request is that I am never left in standing water - I am very dramatic when my feet get wet!

Care Guide

  • Watering: Hidcote Blue Lavender prefers well-drained soil and does not tolerate soggy soil. Water deeply once a week during the growing season and reduce watering during winter. Allow the soil to dry out partially before watering again.
  • Maintenance: Divide the plant every 3-4 years to prevent overcrowding and maintain vigor.
  • Pruning: Prune Hidcote Blue Lavender in early spring before new growth appears. Cut back the previous year's growth to about 1/3 of its length to promote bushy growth and prevent legginess. Do not prune into woody stems as they may not produce new growth.
  • (Optional):Fertilizer: Hidcote Blue Lavender does not require frequent fertilization as it prefers lean soil. Apply a slow-release balanced fertilizer in early spring or top-dress with compost.
