Comes Back Every Year
Hi! I am a Royal Burgundy Japanese Barberry, a compact shrub with rich burgundy foliage that is guaranteed to add an extremely fine and delicate texture to your landscape composition. I become even more eye-catching in the fall, when my foliage turns a deep red and sprouts showy scarlet plumes of ornamental fruit. I am low maintenance, and won't require much pruning. I thrive in any soil type, and am very tolerant of urban pollution - you can plant me right in the city! I am happiest, healthiest and most beautiful when I am planted and grown in full sun and my soil is well drained.

Royal Burgundy Japanese Barberry

Late Fall/Early Spring
Approx. 1-2 times per week
- Attractive Foliage: The Royal Burgundy® Japanese Barberry is prized for its striking, deep burgundy foliage. The leaves are small and oval-shaped, with a glossy texture that adds visual interest to any garden or landscape design.
- Low Maintenance: This barberry is a relatively low-maintenance shrub that is easy to grow and care for. It prefers full sun and well-drained soil, and requires minimal pruning to maintain its shape.
- Deer Resistant: The Royal Burgundy® Japanese Barberry is a deer-resistant shrub, meaning that it is less likely to be eaten by deer than other plants. This makes it an excellent choice for gardens and landscapes where deer are a common problem.
- Watering: Regular watering during the first year after planting to establish a strong root system. Once established, it can tolerate some drought, but prefers consistently moist soil. Water deeply and infrequently, rather than frequent shallow watering
- Maintenance: Requires little maintenance once established
- Pruning: Can be pruned in late winter or early spring before new growth appears
- (Optional): Fertilize in early spring with a balanced fertilizer, such as 10-10-10, according to package instructions. Avoid fertilizing in late summer or fall, as it can promote late season growth that may not have time to harden off before winter.
Planting a trees or plants is easy! First, begin by digging a hole that's twice as wide as the root ball and just as deep. Place the tree or plant in the hole and add some bonemeal fertilizer. Backfill with fresh soil if needed and water thoroughly. Water regularly until roots are established to keep the plant healthy. Enjoy your new tree or plant!
