• (Optional):Fertilize in the spring with a slow-release, balanced fertilizer according to package instructions. You can also add a layer of compost or well-rotted manure around the base of the plant in the spring to provide additional nutrients.

Planting trees or plants is easy! First, begin by digging a hole that's twice as wide as the root ball and just as deep. Place the tree or plant in the hole and add some bonemeal fertilizer.
